When Flannery and I started Kingdom of Pavement in March of 2019, we had no idea we would grow to where we are today, and that's all thanks to you and everyone in our incredible community out here in Los Angeles.
In 2020, we're continuing our mission of highlighting rising creatives in this Kingdom of Pavement we call home, and we're doing it in a few different ways.
Open Mic Nights + Low-Cost Workshops
Save the date, because our next open mic night is January 18th @ 7pm at Aunt Bessi's on Pico next to Century City!
Kick off the year with a night of sharing your creations or witnessing others, and enjoy each other's company and support each other as we evolve as artists. We welcome any kind of contribution to our open mic nights (poetry, monologues, music, stories, etc.) as long as it's under 5 minutes and in line with the supportive community we're building out here.
We've got some exciting new improvements to our open mic night, including a photobooth, raffle, and more! Don't miss it! Ticket link will be live shortly, or it's $5 at the door.
We'll also be doing low-cost workshops before our open mic nights, where you can learn things like beginner-level guitar or poetry writing, so you can hone your skills before you get onstage.
More soon -- make sure you sign up for our email list on our homepage and follow us on Instagram @kingdomofpavement to keep up with everything we've got going on!
New Designs in the Store
Everything in our store is designed with love and functionality in mind to help you hit the pavement with your best foot forward.
I designed this trendy lil hat you see Flannery wearing, and they're made of stonewashed blue denim and are comfortable and adjustable so you can stay cool in a city that has plenty of sun and zero real weather.
Our vintage ink black t-shirts are also so. damn. comfortable. and we wear them all the time, whether we're cozying up with a good book in bed, or hitting the streets. We've also applied a sweet discount of 20% off to celebrate 2020, so get yours while they're hot. (Which is: always.)
Every purchase you make helps us continue to run this website and our open mic nights so we can keep ticket costs low and devote our time to this website, and we appreciate your support!
The Kingdom of Pavement Bookstore
One of the hardest parts of being a creative in Los Angeles is finding your financial footing. For 2020, I wrote and published this book and added it to the Kingdom of Pavement bookstore to help with just that!
There's a lot of different options for day job configurations when you're a creative in Los Angeles, and we often cover this topic in our podcast with our different guests. But I wanted to create a short, no-fluff book that goes over hard and fast tips and tricks to get your own freelancing off the ground so you can pay your bills and still have time to do what you love.
We've got more additions to our bookstore, and we can't wait to share them with you!
In 2020, we'll be debuting more patron-only content, including exclusive part II podcast episodes, articles, and more.
Check out our Patreon and become a patron of the arts -- but for up-and-comers who truly need your support.
We can't wait to share what we have in store this year. Catch you at our first open mic of the year :)
If you want to support more stories like this, become a Pavement Patron. Here at Kingdom of Pavement, our mission is to bring visibility to rising creatives who are doing great things in Los Angeles and beyond.
